• Because secondary chemotherapy has generally failed to provide a cure, many patients under age 55 have been
given high-dose chemotherapy alone or with radiation followed by a bone marrow transplant with moderate
success (approximately 20 percent long-term disease-free survival). An international clinical trial is testing the
